Culpeper, established in 1759, saw plenty of action during the Civil War, changing hands 78 times between the North and the South. Culpeper's strategic railroad location made it a significant supply station for Confederate and Union troops. The town witnessed more than one hundred battles.

Originally a small 10-block town, most of its growth occurred in the 1980s as a bedroom community of the more populated Northern Virginia suburbs. Downtown Culpeper was one of the areas most affected by the 2011 earthquake. Several buildings suffered structural damage, and some were later condemned. It is also the unfortunate location where Christopher Reeve, the former “Superman” actor fell during a horse competition and became paralyzed.

• Our favorite restaurant in Culpeper is the Piedmont Steakhouse which is family-owned and strives to serve the freshest regional products available, at a fair price, and with superior service. They are in a fantastic 1890s historic brick building which is fun.
  
  

• Culpeper local favorite, Rock Water Park, offers 1.7 miles of multi-use trails, a Fitcore Extreme obstacle course, a splash pad, an 18-hole disc golf course, a 14-foot climbing boulder, Sparks at Play young children's playground, public restrooms, and a large pavilion.
  
  

• PREMIER PRO TIP – Since the outbreak of Covid, Culpeper has seen a significant increase in the amount of new construction, as people have begun to work more from home and have moved from the more populated areas closer to DC. This has played a big role in the recent increase in values and is also reflected in more commercial construction.
