Located on the Virginia Peninsula, York County is bordered by the York River, the Chesapeake Bay and the neighboring municipalities of James City County, Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, and Poquoson. The neighborhood of Tabb is a located in the southern part of the county near Hampton and Newport News, and is known for its good schools and strong sense of community. Seaford is a neighborhood situated on the banks of the York River and is known for its waterfront views and access to recreational activities such as boating and fishing.
The northwestern end of the county is considered part of the greater Williamsburg area, with rural and suburban properties adjacent to the City of Williamsburg and James City County. Homes in this part of the county would bear a Williamsburg mailing address and offer convenient access to all that Williamsburg and James City County have to offer, while subject to different local governance, services, ordinances, and tax rates.
