The City of Manassas, located within Prince William County, was founded in 1873. Marking 150 years before the time of this write-up. Two railroads, the Manassas Gap and the Orange & Alexandria railroad intersected here, and the area became known as Manassas Junction. Later shortened to just Manassas, these rails connected Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. with the Shenandoah Valley, and Richmond, which became a key strategic point for the Union and the Confederacy as a supply depot and for military transportation.

Recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places, 35-room Annaburg Manor is believed to be the first home in the country equipped with mechanical air-conditioning. The designs in air-conditioning, artificial cooling, and ice-making machines are believed to contribute to the technology used in today’s air-conditioning systems. At its height, the property size of 2,157 acres would take up a large portion of the city. It eventually became a nursing home and rehabilitation center. Many of the older homes in the historic district are still occupied, modernized, and in good overall condition. A large portion of the homes are Victorian in style with large wraparound front porches that are very desirable.

Troy’s grandparents settled in Manassas in 1957 from North Carolina. His grandfather, Dwight, worked for VPI as a soil scientist. Working mostly to locate septic fields for the Health Department and preserve the water table, he was responsible for finding the location for the still-existing Prince William dump/landfill. Dwight and 3 other men developed Prince William County’s soil survey using aerial photography, an auger that pretty much never left his side, and lots of walking. These maps would prove to be critical for future development. Our home appraisers have deep connections with the areas that we cover. So, whether you need a property valuation for PMI removal, estate purposes, or a lender for a refinance, choosing an experienced home appraisal company is important.

  • Old Town Manassas is home to many of our favorite restaurants, some of which Troy worked at when he was young. Carmello’s was started in 1987 and is widely considered the best Italian food in the area.

  • PREMIER PRO TIP – Any sale of a historic home built around 1900 in Old Town must be compared with other homes of this age and location. Sales that are somewhat dated would most certainly be more desirable than more recent sales not within walking distance of Old Town and newer built. A seasoned and well-qualified Home Appraiser that covers Manassas City must be well-versed in all areas of residential valuations. Our home appraisals can help make the difference for your transaction.

If you have questions or would like to order an appraisal of property or appraisal of a home, we're here for you.
